COKE SUPPLIES.
SHORTAGE IN MASTERTON. “We have had quite a lot of trouble with our coke supplies this year and there is no doubt about tho shortage being real,” observed Councillor A. D. Low, chairman of the Gas Committee, at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council. Until further notice, the supplies of coke to householders, other than those who are already on the quota basis, will be rationed as follows: Gas consumers, 3 bags per month; gas consumers with combination cookers, 4 bags per month. No coke will be supplied to non-gas consumers. The State Coal Department wrote stating that, subject to an order being placed for 2,000 tons of Liverpool unscreened coal during the ensuing twelve months, thc price would be reduced by 7d a ton.
It was decided to accept the offer, provided the present standard of eoal was maintained.
