CRASH INTO WASH-OUT.
FATALITY IN SOUTHLAND. MOTOR CYCLIST KILLED. INVERCARGILL, December 19. A serious accident resulting in the death of William Templeton, of Pahia, single, 22, occurred at Campers Creek, To Anau, yesterday. Templeton and a pillion rider, Alfred Cyril Crofts, 29, were proceeding towards Tuatapero and apparently failed to see a notice which stated that the rood was closed owing to the approach to the bridge on the Tuatapere side having been washed away. The machine crashed through the barricade which had been placed across the road, ran along the bridge and dropped 15 feet over the end into the stream below. Templeton received serious injuries and died in the Riverton Hospital. Crofts had a miraculous escape and sustained two fractured ribs. He was also bruised and is suffering from shock. He is at present in the Riverton Hospital.—(P.A.)
