METHODIST HOME.
ENJOYABLE CHRISTMAS PARTY. The annual tea and Christmas function of the Methodist Children’s Home took place on Friday night when there was a large attendance, including several visitors from Wellington and elsewhere. After tea, which was provided by the staff, and presided over by the Rev. E. O. Blamires, the guests adjourned to the Children’s Hall, when an account of the operations of the Homo during the past year was given by the secretary-manager (the Rev. J. Cocker), speeches made by visitors and members of the management committee, a progamme of musical items given by the children of the Home, and the annual visit paid by Father Christmas. Addresses were delivered by Messrs Mourant, Kellow, Hurley and Redstone, of Wellington, the Revs. E. O. Blamires and J. Cocker, and Messrs C. E. Daniell and J. Handyside, the speakers touching on various aspects of the operations of the Home. Musical and elocutionary items were given by Gordon Orr, Joan Stanley, Ray Kcals, Shirley Kcals, Hazel Jones, Dick Buttars and the Children’s Home choir. Presentations were made on behalf of the Wellington Methodist Board of Trustees to Misses M. Allan, M. M. Mead and Olive Henderson, accompanied by the Board’s appreciation of services rendered in the interests of the Home by the recipients. The visit of Father Christmas was eagerly looked forward to, and was a most successful part of the gathering. Heavily laden with gifts for the children, Father Christmas carried out his duties in a most delightful manner, having a cheery word of greeting for each child. The presentation of an appropriate gift to each male member of the Management Committee, and to. the staff, accompanied by humorous remarks on the part of Father Christmas, completed one of the most successful Santa Claus functions ever held in connection with the Home.
