CONCERT AND DANCE.
ENJOYABLE ENTERTAINMENT AT PIBINOA. (“The Age” Special.) A combined concert and dance organised by the officers of the Primary Mutual and Relief Society of the Kohunui branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Batter Day Saints was held in the Memorial Hall on Wednesday night. The hall, which was crowded, was tastefully decorated and the performers, who were mostly Natives of the district, showed remarkable abilities in the various items given. The audience showed its approval of the performance by the numerous demands for encore items. The quality of the entertainment reflected great praise on those responsible for the success of the evening. The poi dances by the tiny girls was the gem of the evening and the manner in which the little ones I manipulated the poi was in itself a performance of the highest merit. At the conclusion of the concert the hall was cleared for dancing, the music being played by Mr. D. Matenga, while extras were played by Mrs. Emoka. The following was the programme: Opening chorus, “Welcome to All”; recitation, Miss Daphne Barclay; Maori action, song, primary children; vocal duet, June Te Maari and George Ahipene; Dutch dance, primary girls; recitation, George Ahipene; single poi, primary girls; men’s quartette, Messrs. M. Carter, M. Waiwera and Taurau (2); Hawaiian. dance, primary girls; recitation, Daphne Barclay; combined poi, primary girls; one-act play, “Melodrama”; vocal solo, -Tawhiro Te Maari; Spanish cotillion, Misses Te Maari, Wi Necra, Taurau (2) and Messrs. Taurau (2>), Waiwera and Miller; Gleaners’ chorus, Gleaner girls’ trio, Misses Te Whaiti, Taurau and To Maari; men’s quartette, Messrs. Carter, Waiwera and Taurau (2); vocal solo, M. Waiwera; grand finale, “E Pari Ra, ” company.
