COURSING.

WAIRARAPA CLUB OPENS SEASON. CONTEST FOR PHYSICK CUP. The Wairarapa Coursing Club conducted a very successful meeting for the Physick Cup, on the Mt. Bruce enclosure on Saturday. There was a good attendance of the public. Coursing of an excellent standard was seen, the hares proving very strong and in Host cases easily gaining the escapes after some of the most spectacular ties seen on the club’s enclosure. Now the club is in the position of securing ample supplies of hares, it should develop into one of the most progressive coursing clubs in New Zealand, and this season many fixtures will probably be held. The management of the meeting was excellent, and events went off smoothly. The slipping was in the hands of Mr. W. Harding, who got his dogs away well, there being no unsighted course throughout the meeting. Mr. A. Ross was an efficient judge and his prompt decisions were well received. Mr. J. A. Taylor, of Eketahuna, the winner of the Physiek Cup with Ace of Spades, is to be congratulated on having his dog in such good form. This dog has won many stakes, including the first one at Mt. Bruce several seasons ago, as a maiden dog. Following are the results of the Physick Cup event:— First Round.—Messrs. F. and E. Butcher’s Gay Parade beat Mr. E. Brown’s Why Worry; Mr. H. Smith’s Black Limes beat Mr. L. A. Wadham’s Black Duke; Mr. J. A. Taylor’s Ace of Spades beat Mr. E. Brown’s Abbey Queen; Mr. H. Smith’s Boy Limes beat Mr. L. Fulton’s Queen of Hearts; Messrs. F. and S. Butcher's What a Smile beat Mr. G. Yates’s Honour. Second Round.—Black Limes beat Gay Parade; Ace of Spades beat Boy Lincs; What a Smile, a bye.

Third Round.—Ace of Spades beat What a Smile; Black L imes, a bye. Final.—Mr. J. A. Taylor’s Ace of Spades (Great Limes—Marion Watch), 1J points, beat Mr. H. Smith’s Black Limes (Papahian—Lady Limes), 1 point, after a good course. Both dogs ran unsighted momentarily after leaving the slips, when Aee of Spades just led and turned from Black Limes, the points, 14/1 indicating a narrow victory.
