THE WINTER SHOW.

REPORT OF THE GENERAL COMMITTEE. DISPOSAL OP THE CASH IN HAND. PUBLIC MEETING NEXT WEEK. The final report of the Wairarapa Winter Show General Committee. of 1930,.which has been withheld until the accounts could be presented in completed shape, appears below. Signed for the General Committee by the chairman, Mr. E. M. Hodder, the report recommends that the total balance in hand of £428 8s 2d (including a k credit on this year’s Show of £34 ' Os. 8d) should be placed in the hands of trustees as the nucleus of a fund for the establishment of permanent quarters for a Winter Show in Masterton. In the event of the money not being used for this purpose within four years, it is suggested that its disposal shall be determined at a public meeting ■ to be called by the trustees at the end of that period. These proposals are to be submitted to a public meeting on Tuesday next. It is suggested that the meeting should be called in the forenoon. Following is the text of the report:: — “Considering the somewhat depressed trading conditions, due mainly to lower prices for our primary products, the financial results of the third Winter Show must be considered satisfactory. It is interesting to note that a majority of the exhibitors were, at the termination of the Show, well pleased ; . with the results of their enterprise. “ The action of the committee in opening the Show free to the public during the last two days, while seriously curtailing the net profits, resulted in substantially increasing the attendance, which after all is one of the main points aimed at. During the first fhlit days 8f the Show the attendance was disappointing—the chief reason for this, we consider, was the surprising lack of support of local and district enterprise. Considering the large number of possible exhibitors in the Wairarapa, the thirteen who did exhibit form a small portion only of the total. If this fact is spy efiteri|n, then it is obvious (hut Ti) NHt i« fat-uur Bf s Winter Sliuw: of (2) Sot in favour bf the method of tunning the Show, or (3) think that the buildings available are unsuitable. Criticism of a constructive nature along these or other lines, would assist future efforts.

“The Empire Shopping Display was conducted on similar lines to hurt year, but here again the lack of support seriously affected the success of the i effort. Only 44 entries were received, against 73 last year. “The addition this year of several farmers to the General Committee considerably strengthened the personnel. And enabled us to make a special effort to interest the primary producers generally. Competitive classes in field and garden roots, ensilage and exhibits from members of the Boys ’ and Girls ’ ~-*Ble interest: The special leelures arranged on Farmers’ Day were well attended, and amply justified the trouble jißisas* Is this direction.
