FATALITY AT TINUL
YOUNG MAN LOSES HIS LIFE. CAUGHT IN MACHINERY. A sad fatality occurred yesterday Bfrernnnn at Tinui, a yiming Donald Laing, son of Mr. Gordon laing, Upper Plain, Masterton, losing his life while operating a wood-saw-ing plant. The accident occurred at about 2.30 o’clock. Mr Laing, who was only 20 years of age, was engaged with Mr. Leslie Uameroii, of Rewa Rewa. Station, in cutting wood with a circular saw driven from an oil engine. It appears that the belt dew toff the sawbench -fly-wheel and Mr. Laing, in attempting to stop the engine, somehow got caught in part of the machinery, with fatal results. He was picked up and carried into Mr. Cameron’s house and Dr. J. A. Cowie was immediately summoned. On arrival, however, Dr. Cowie could only pronounce life to be extinct, Mr. Laing’s neck being broken and: his Iskull fractured. The sympathy of a very wide circle of friends will be extended to the members of the family and other relatives in their sad loss. The body was later removed 1 to Masterton.
The late Mr. Laing was very popular throughout the district and took a keen interest in farming. He was an ex-pupil of the Wairarapa High School. An inquest will be opened at the Masterton Courthouse this morning at 10 o’clock, when the evidence of Dr. Cowie will be taken. The inquest will then be adjourned to Tinui.
The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the resfdence, “Fairview,”. Upper Plain, at 2.30 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery.
