SOLO FLIGHTS BY LADY MEMBERS.

Afore evidence of the progress that is being made by members of the Wairarapa Aero Club was given on Monday, when Mrs C. C. Marsaek -'made her first solo flight. She appeared to have an excellent command of the ’plane while aloft an'd made a good landing on returning to the aerodrome.

Yesterday a lady pilot member. Miss A. Barton, made a solo flight to Palmerston North and back. The journey from Masterton was made in the forenoon and Miss Barton, after putting in a considerable part of the Bay in Palmerston, returned to the club’s aerodrome at four o’clock in the afternoon.

Subsequently, the club’s ’plane went aloft again with a photographer on board and several pictures of the Wairarapa High School were taken from, the air. Arrangements have been made by the Principal of the High School, Mr. H. B. Tomlinson, for Captain W. F. Park to execute- some stunts in the club’s ’plane over the High School grounds on the occasion of the garden party to be held there on November 29.

At the meeting of the Music Week Committee last night it was stated that a public meeting would be called early next year to discuss the revival of the Choral Society.

A meeting of the Carterton branch of the Farmers’ Union is to be held in the P. an'd A. Society’s Rooms on Friday, at 1.30 p.m. Mr F. Brazendale will address members on points of interest to farmers arising out of his recent visit to the Old Country.

The Dominion of New Zealand Wrestling Union, which is the controlling body for wrestling in New Zealand, has announced that in pursuance of its policy of eliminating all tactics making for unnecessary rough ness in the sport, butting with the head has to forbfdden movements. —(P.A.)

Motorists travelling on the road beween Mangamahoe and Mauriceville West, via Hastwell, on Thursday and Friday of this week are requested to exercise special care, as a hall is being transported on those days. The lorry carrying the hall will have a load on each occasion of a witlth of about 12J feet an'd on that account motorists will need to exercise particular care.

Probably there are not many fathers and sons who are acting as honorary secretaries of amateur athletic clubs, but Mr. J. V. Dolan, hon. secretary of the Masterton Amateur Athletic- Club, has a son who is carrying out similar duties in Auckland. This is Mr. J. B. Dolan, who is hon. secretary and official handicapper of the Lyndale Club, at New Lynn, Auckland. Mr. J. B. Dolan besides acting in an official capacity, is an active athlete.

At a meeting of the Wairarapa High School Parents’ Association on Monday evening, it was decided to hold a garden party in the High School grounds on Saturday, November 29. This will take the place of the usual Shop Day. Special arrangements are being ma’de to make the function an outstanding one in every respect. Stunts are to be performed over the grounds by the Wairarapa Aero Club’s ’plane, piloted by Captain W. F. Park, while the party is in progress.

At a meeting of the executive of the Counties’ Association in Welling ton yesterday Mr. William Morrison, of Maxwell, Wanganui, was recommended to the Minister of Public Works as successor to Mr. A. E. Jull, who resigned from the Alain Highways Board prior to nomination for the Waipawa election. Regret was expressed that Mr. Jull had ha'd to resign. The opinion was expressed that he had done sound work on the Main Highways Board and B was a valuable connecting link between the board and counties.—(P.A.)

Private board wanted by young man. The annual meeting of the Langdale Athletic Sports Society will be held in the Langdalc Hall on Saturday evening next, at 7.30. The annual meeting of the Masterton branch of the W.C.T.U. will be held in Knox Hall to-morrow, at 2.45 p.m.

The annual shop day of the Plunket Society will be held on Wednesday, November 12, in the shop next Fire Station, recently occupied by Afr Frank Petersen.

The annual meeting of the No. 2 Workers’ Mutual Benefit Building Society will be held on Thursday, November 20. Nominations for the offices of three directors close to-morrow at 5 p.m.
