BADMINTON.
THORNDON BEAT MASTEBTON NOMADS. VISIT TO WELLINGTON. The Masterton Nomads Badminton team travelled to Wellington on Saturday to play their return match against the Thorndon Club. Play commenced at 3 p.m., and continued till 6 p.m. The visitors were entertained at dinner at the Hotel Cecil. The match was continued after dinner, Thorndon winning seven matches to five, after a number of closely contested games. The Thorndon Club gave an informal dance, which was very much appreciated by the visiting team. The results are as follow (Thorndon players named first): Ladies ’ Doubles.—Misses Markman and Phillips beat Misses James and Beetham, 15/6, 15/2; Mesdames Castle and Bryan test to Misses Turner and Marshall, 9/15, 15/7, 12/15; Misses Harper and McGovern beat Mrs. Prior and Miss D. Cameron, 15/9, 15/7. Men’s Doubles.—Bryan and Marshall lost to Hodder and Major, 9/15, 13/15; Castle and Dinnies lost to Miller and T Beetham, 11/15, 4/15; Gorton and Owen lost to Collins and Wilson, 9/15 9/15. ’
Combined Doubles.—Bryan and Mrs. Bryan beat Major and Miss Turner 15/7, 7/15, 18/16; Marshall and Miss Markham beat Hodder and Miss Beetham, 15/9, 13/18, 15/H; Gorton and Miss Phillips beat Miller and Mrs Prior, 10/15, 15/5, 15/11; Castle and Mrs. Castle beat Collins and Miss James, 15/11, 13/15, 15/11; Dinniss and Miss McGovern lost to T. Beetham and Miss Marshall, 16/18, 15/7, 9/]5 ; Owen and Miss Harper beat Wilson and Miss Cameron, 15/5, 15/11.
