CROWN TENANTS’ CLAIM.
SEQUEL TO THE CLOSING OF BRANCH LINE. (By Telegraph—“ The Age’’ Special.) WELLINGTON, August 26. A number of Crown tenants on the Wilden Estate, in Otago, have petitioned through Mr. W. A. Bodkin M.P. protesting against a reduction in yailway services since they took up their areas. They declare that in applying for this land they confidently •formed their judgment on rail access shown iu the plans. There 'has been insufficient time to transport heavy quantities of material needed in. subdivision and other improvements. The decision to close the Hcriot-Edievala Section will seriously upset their calculations of expenses and must retard improvements. Had the railway been closed before the purchase of the estate it would have reduced its /price. The petitioners ia,sk for the revaluation of their holdings and a reduction in rent based on the depreciated value of the land due to the absence of railway facilities.
