RAILWAY DISMISSALS.
LABOUR MEMBERS HECKLE MINISTER. (By Telegraph.—“ The Age” Special.) WELLINGTON, August 26. In calling the attention of the Minister of Railways, in the House of Representatives to-day, to further dismissals from his Department, Mr. W. Nash (Hutt) asked if this policy was not in violation of the promise made by the Minister to a deputation on July 18 that no further notices of dismissal would be issued. The Hon. W. A Veitch replied that it was true that on July 18 he made a statement that for the time being no more men would bo dismissed, but he was sure the questioner would realise that no Minister could make a promise of that kind for all time. Mr Nash: “Forty notices have gone out.” The Minister re-plied that representations had been made to him that rnornTradesmen’s Association, and he had undertaken to have certain investigations made, the result of which he would communieate to Mr Nash. Mr. W. J. Jordan (Manakau): “Are !>0 “ S o,n ? to discharge any morel” The Minister: “That will depend as the J aris e- I am employing as many men as available money will permit.”
