OPERA HOUSE. “THE LONE STAR BANGER.” As Buck Duane, outlaw by circumstance, George O’Brien spurns fate and man-made terrors for a woman’s smile in “The Lone Star Ranger,” Fox Movietone all-talking romance, adapted from Zane Grey’s widely read novel, which screens for. the last time to-night at the Opera House. Sue Carol, who portrays the feminine lead, furnishes the heajt appeal, and the combination of O’Brien, Grey and Miss Carol is a happy one. It provides a distinct treat in the first real Western” to be transferred to the audible screen. The story deals with the stirring adventures of the daring Texas Bangers in the days when the West was wild. A delightful love story threads its way through the unfolding of the plot and the climax is immense. The title role was 'made for O’Brien and he given one of the best performances of his career, there is a good supporting programme. Patrons are advised to book immediately at Vare’s. COMING TO-MORROW. “TRAILIN’ TROUBLE.” Hoot Gibson’s latest talkie, “Trailin’ Trouble,” commences a two night season at the Opera House l to-morrow night. Produced in technieolour from ibeginning to end is “The Vagabond King” Paramount’s all-talking, allsinging screen operetta which shows finally this afternoon and to-night at the Cosy has 35 gorgeous settings. The stage production played 90 weeks in New York’ and then was seen and heard by thousands on its tour to Chicago and Philadelphia. Dennis King, who created the role in the original stage operetta, “The Vagabond King,” plays the same role with the same dynamic spirit and gusto, in the all-colour screen version. The two major song hits of the show are “The Song of the Vagabonds,” and “Only a Rose.” These are fairly well known by this time everywhere. A chorus of 500 voices supports King when he sings “ The • Song of the Vagabonds” in the picture. Dennis King’s leading lady is Jeanette MacDonald, the noted singer who scored so .well in “The Love Parade.” Warner Oland who was seen to advantage as Dr. Fu Manchu plays the role of the treacherous Grand Marshal and Lillian Roth, comedienne of “The Love Parade” is seen and heard in the singing role of “Huguette. ” Patrons are advised to book immediately at Vara’s for stalls or dress circle. Commencing on Wednesday next, all seats booked at Vare’s must be paid for there and the adult price for the dress circle will be 2s plus tax (3d) and booking fee ’3d extra. COMING TO-MORROW. “THE GREENE MURDEB CASE.” Public taste for thrilling mystery melodrama in moving poctures, evidenced by the overwhelming success of “The Canary Murder Case,” the S.S. Van Dine story, “The Studio Murder Mystery” and “The Mysterious Dr. Fu Manchu,” lead Paramount to make what it believes is the most thrilling of its series, the second S.S. - Van Dine story, “The Greene Murder | Case.” The gripping mystery moving picture, which will show at the Cosy | Theatre starting on Wednesday for | three days, twice daily, again has William Powell in the role of the suave, society detective, Philo Vance. Powell made a hit in this role in “The Canary Murder Case.” Other imembers of the cast of “The Greene Murder Case” who repeat their parts of “The Canary Murder Case” are Eugene Pallette and E. H.
