THE TERRIBLE TURK.
VICTORY OVER TOM ALLEY. AUCKLAND, August 10. In his first appearance in Auckland Kara Pasha, the Turkish wrestler, defeated Tom Alley, United States, before a packed audience in the Town Hall on Saturday evening. The two men had met previously in Wellington where the Turk won by two falls to one and on Saturday he gained two submission falls from Alley, to win the bout in the sixth round. It was the first contest to be held under the control of the recently formed Ex-Servicemen’s Wrestling 'Union and the new association received good support. The first three rounds were fast and even, but in the fourth Kara Pasha gained a subinission fall with, a toe hold. Alley made desperate, but unsuccessful attempts to equalise in the fifth and in the sixth the Turk gained a second submission fall with another toe hold. —(PH.) “STRANGLER” LEWIS. Wrestling in his first Australian match, “Strangler” Lewis exploited only the crudest holds on Saturday night against Charlie Strack, but his great strength enabled him to triumph. So severe were his headlocks that Strack was unable to rise and was removed unconscious. He was thrown five times and finally pinned.
