MUSIC WEEK.

APPEAL TO CHORAL SINGERS. (To the Editor.) Sir,—W© should like through your courtesy to bring before the notice of the people of the Wairarapa, and especially of Masterton the preparations which are being made for the choral night during Music Week, which is to take place early in October. Opportunity is being given to all singers to participate in the rendition of such fine works as * * The Challenge of Thor, " and the "Hallelujah Chorus," etc., in such numbers as the Wairarapa before has not been privileged to hear. Only those who have sung in large massed choirs of hundreds of voices, as it is our hope to obtain for Music Week, can realise the inspiration such numbers give. The opportunity has come but there are dozens of singers who have • not availed themselves of that opportunity. We want them to join up because we know they will enjoy it. Masterton choralists who have joined up number just under the hundred; members of the Carterton Choral Union are hoping to join and on the choral night there seems every likelihood that the Wellington Apollo Male Singers will be helping. This will make a choir of about one hundred and fifty voices. But we feel that the Wairarapa can show a choir of 200 vocalists and we appeal to all singers to join up. It is going to be worth while and not only a joy forthe few weeks’ practice but a memory to retain for years. Mr. Temple White, the well-known Vf conductor from Wellington, is to take the baton and is conducting the first combined practice in the Parish Hall on Monday, 11th inst., at 7.30 p.m. We want every singer who enjoys a night's singing to keep that night "free and to roll up with the thought that he’s going to do his best to boost Music Week along. Into the bargain he will have such a sing as he has never had a his life before. Many singers have the idea that by joining up with this choir they will lay themselves open to a request to join up with Church choirs.* As conductors of various Church choirs we wish to clear the position for those people. The choir was formed from the Church choirs which are the basis of choral singing in this town. While we should appreciate the help of singers in our choirs it is not our intention to coerce people into joining up with our choirs and for that reason no one need hesitate to join up with the Music Week Choir. If we are not a musical district this is the opportunity for us to become such; if wc are, then here's the opportunity to show it.— We are, etc., S. H. RALPH, Methodist Choir. ADELE ROSEWARNE, Bt. Matthew's Choir. F. M. PINFOLD, Knox Choir. Masterton, August 9.
