SUCCESSFUL SHOP DAY.
WAIRARAPA BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION. .
In spite of the wet and cold weather of yesterday, the Wairarapa Basketball Association’s Shop Day, held in the A.P.F. Shop, Perry (Street, was well attended and patronised and added £l6 6s 6d to the funds of the association. The money is to be applied to the • expenses of the Wairarapa representative team which is to go to the New Zealand Basketball Tournament, which opens at Hastings on Saturday, August. 30. A considerable amount of money was realised by the sale of goods and a copper trail brought in £2 2s 2£d. Competitions resulted us follow: Guessing num/oei of seeds in a ma’iow (160): Mr. L. Barber, Lansdowne 147, I'. LadteP nail drving: Mrs C< rnish, 1; Miss X. Welch, 2. Length of string in a bottle (68yds. liins.): Mr. G. R. Dean (70yds.), 1. In judging the weight of a cake, Miss O. R. Sutherland and Mrs Jameson (Lansdowne) tied, each coming within half an ounce of the actual weight, 61bs. 54 ounces. The committee of the Basketball Association wish to thank all who kindly donated cakes, sweets, fruit etc. and also the following ladies who assisted: Mesdames Ackerman and Hayward and Misses N. Welch, Jean Caverhill and M. Bright. Gratitude is expressed also to Mr. G. H. Perry for giving the use of the A.P.F. free for the Shop Day.
