REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hockey Referees' Association was held in Masterton last evening. Referees' badges were awarded to Messrs Ebbett, Burgess and Stubbings. Referees who sat for their New Zealand badges were Messrs. Stubbings and Burgess. On the motion of Mr. Ebbett it was decided to send a letter to the New Zealand Referees’ Association protesting against the fact that only one night a year was set aside for the New Zealand referees’ examination. It was held that more than one night should be allotted. A letter is to be sent to the Wairarapa Hockey Association and to the Wairarapa Ladies’ Hockey Association stating that unless they took steps to see that grounds were properly’ marked out, the Referees’ Association would not appoint referees for matches. The meeting was thrown open to general discussion and several rulings were brought up for interpretation. It was decided that all referees turn out in whites in future matches. This rule is to be strictly enforced. Monday night was decided on as the last night for referees to sit for the association badges, in the north, and Wednesday week in the south.
