CLAY BIRD SHOOTING.
NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. WON BY' S. ANDERSON. CHRISTCHURCH, August 5. The twenty-ninth sweepstake clay pigeon match for the championship of New Zealand was held under the auspices of the North Canterbury Gun Club at Rangiora to-day. The winner was S. Anderson, Methven. There were 37 entries and the prize money Was divided among six competitors, who tied all on. Anderson won the shootoff. The six qualifying were: S. Anderson, D. Davidson (Culverden), F. Wrigley (Levin), J. Winchester '(Ellesmere), H. Grennell (Christchurch), and L. Seddon (Hamilton). The conditions were 21 birds off 18 yards. The match w as fired in a dull light, a heavy southwest wind and ceaseless rain. Anderson shot all the 21 birds and in the shoot-off beat Wentwprth at the 20th bird, so that the winner shot 41 birds straight.—(P.A.)
