Under the auspices of the Masterton Accountant Students’ Society a lecture will be given in the A. and P. rooms at 7.30 o’clock to-night by Mr. A. Keith. The subject of Mr. Keith’s address will be “The Law and Accounts of Building Societies."

A lad named Bernie Ebbett, of .Woodville, aged 15, while playing football against the Pahiatua District High School on Saturday morning, had a hip fractured and after being attended to by a doctor was conveyed in an ambulance to the Dannevirke Hospital. He is a son of Mr. F. Ebbett, of Woodville.—(P.A.)

Florence ’Skelton, aged 29, residing in Remuera Road, Auckland, collapsed in a city shop where she was working and died before assistance could be given her. It is understood that Miss Skelton had been attended by a doctor for some time on account of heart trouble.—(P.A.)

Elvina Nesbit, aged 19, of Morningaide, received severe head injuries when she was 'Struck by a falling stack of trays while working at the Empire Box Company's premises fat Auckland on Saturday. She was. taken to the hospital and died yesterday morning. ~(P.A.) There was a very large congregation at St. Matthew's Church last night, When the Rev. W. Bullock, whoi is leaving for Wellington in the near future, conducted the service for the last time. Mr. Bullock, in the course of -his address, thanked the various helpers of the church and stated that the scope of his life in the parish had been a blessing to him. Another successful euchre party organised by the East Coast Meeting House Committe in aid of their funds was held on Saturday evening. The prize winners for the evening were: Mrs. M. Anaru first, Mrs. P. Paku second; Mr. G. Greathead first, S'. Tataurangi second. The prizes were kindly donated by Mrs. B. Johns and Mr. J. R. Paku. There was an attendance of over forty at the rose pruning demonstration given on Saturday in the Master ton Park by Mr. J. Horton, under the ‘auspices of the Wairarapa Small Holdings Association. Mr. Horton explain - ed pruning methods on various hushes in the rose garden and judging by the number of questions which were asked considerable interest was shown in the demonstration. Mr. Horton also showed the way in which to strike cuttings and the procedure in spraying. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Horton for his demonstration.

The Church of the Epiphany Ladies' Guild held a most successful jumble sale in the schoolroom on Saturday afternoon. There was a good attendance end brisk business was done at the various stalls. It is anticipated that a very satisfactory amount will be realised. The stallholders were:— Jumble, Mesdames F. Whitton, J. Mill•er, W. Palamo nt&in and Miss D. Godfrey; work, Mrs. Rutty; produce, Mesdames W. B. Chennells, C. Braggins •and Miss Pearce; flowers, Miss Jean Jackson; cakes, Mrs. Dalrymple and •Miss Ashwell; sweets, Misses D. Kemp and T. McKay. The afternoon tea arrangement were in the capable hands of Mesdames A. T. Jackson and Wyber, assisted by Mrs. W. G. Perry and the Misses McKenzie and Wyber. The members of the Ladies 7 Guild wish to thank all those w r ho kindly sent contributions and assisted to make the function such a success.

The combined drill and top dresser has been deleted from the Eketahuna clearing sale on Wednesday. The annual meeting of the Gladstone Herd-testing Association will be held in the A. and P. Rooms on Wednesday, July 30, at 1.30 p.m.

The Convent Old Girls' Basketball Club will hold a dance and euchre tournament in St. Patrick’s Assembly Hall at 8 o’clock to-morrow night. The W.F.C.A., Ltd., notify that cars will leave their Masterton office at 9.45 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, for the unreserved clearing sale of dairy stock and sundries on account of Mr. J Henson, Paxville, Eketahuna, particulars of whiph are advertised on nage P
