PLUNKET SHIELD.
AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON. VISITORS LEAD ON FIRST INNINGS. WELLINGTON, March 8. The second day’s play in the deciding match for the Plunket Shield today was full of fluctuations which kept the interest of the four thousand spectators keyed up to a high pitch. The first high light came in the very first over of the day, when a -rising ball trom Henderson rapped Hunt so severely that he could not continue and Auckland s innings closed with the addition of a no ball by Henderson to the team’s overnight total of 432. The opening of Wellington’s innings was highly sensational, as Matheson bowled with such devil that he had Foley and Lowry both caught behind the wickets by the time seven runs were on the slate. Anthony supported Matheson so ably that the Wellington batsmen came and went in a rapid succession. Six wickets were down for 41 runs, but a solid century by McLeod and a fighting innings by Gallichan, James and Massey enabled the home eleven to eventually total 288. Auckland m their second innings, have lost no wickets for 34. They opened their innings with a 150 lead. The scores are as follow: AUCKLAND. First Innings e 433 'Second Innings.
