TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

STUDENTS’ ANNUAL SOCIAL GATHERING. MR. C. H. WILSON FAREWELLED. A social gathering promoted by students of the Masterton Technical School to welcome new pupils was held last evening in the St. Matthew’s Parish Hall and was a very bright and enjoyable function of its kind. Those present included the kind. Those present included Mr. F. W. Martin, Principal of the School, and Mrs Martin, members of the staff and their wives and, a full muster of pupils. The evening was spent in dancing and games and an excellent supper was provided and served by the girls of the school. Au opportunity was taken during the' evening to farewell Mr. C. H. Wilson, Engineering Instructor, who has been appointed to a position on the staff Of the Wanganui Technical College. Mr. Martin said that Mr. Wilson had been with them for six years. He was the first full-time teacher to be appointed to the school and came when it was just beginning to function as a day school. He had beep associated with the growth of the school to its present proportions and this growth was largely due to Mr. Wilson’s work. The good work Mr. Wilson had done was recognised, not only in the school, but throughout the town and district. Mr. Martin said that everywhere he went in Masterton he heard remarks about the loss the school was about to suffer in the loss of Mr. Wilson. As they all knew, Mr. Wilson was as popular as a teacher could be. He had been popular from the time he cam© and his popularity had increased the longer he stayed. This, th© Principal observed, was due to ths fact that Mr. Wilson was always striving for the benefit of others. Whenever anyone in the school asked Mr. Wilson to do some little thing for them, he tried to something big for them. Mr. Wilson would be remembered gratefully by many a boy in Masterton and throughout the Wairarapa. They all wished Mr. and Mrs Wilson and their children the best of good fortune and future prosperity and happiness. (Applause). Edward Jones then presented Mr. Wilson, on behalf of the pupils, with a brass tray table. Another presentation, of a handsome inkstand, was made by former pupils of the school. The function had been officially limited to present pupils of the school, but a number of old boys intimated that they were determined to come in order that they might take part in the farewell to Mr. Wilson. Their presentation was made by William Blunt, who said that many of the old boys, though they had -j'lt had the sorrow of losing Mr. Wilson while they were still at school, felt his loss perhaps as much as the present pupils. Mr. Wilson had kept touch with them after they left school. They had decided that they ought to come to this gathering and endeavour to mark their appreciation of what Mr. Wilson had done for them. (Applause). 01.1 boys and present pupils joined in giving hearty cheers for Mr. and Mrs Wilson and their family. Mr. Wilson, in returning thanks for the gifts and good wishes, said that he had really done very little for the school and what little he had done it had been a great pleasure to do. He thanked them most sincerely for their kind remarks and good wishes. He and Mrs. Wilson would take nothing, but the pleasantest memories with them from Masterton. (Applause and cheers). Mr. -and Mrs. Wilson and their family leave for Wanganui at the end of next week.
