DEADLY BOWLING
ENGLISHMEN OVERWHELM HAWKE’S BAY. GOOD NINTH WICKET STAND. NAPIER, February 3. M.C.C. defeated Hawke’s Bay to-day by an innings and 248 runs. The home side carried its first innings total to 119, Beck, 35 not out, being the only batsman to make a stand. The Bay batsmen could not handle the fast bowling of Allom and Nichols who were making great pace off a hard and fast wicket. Following on, the Bay wickets again fell fast, but Nairn (31) and Kavanagh (32 not out) put on 52 for the ninth wicket. The innings finally closed for 144.—'(P.A.)
