THE RACING WORLD.

NEWS, NOTES AND COMMENTS. The acceptances received for the Wellington meeting next week are very satisfactory and the fields’will be large enough in each race to puzzle backers and provide interesting sport. Given line weather the Steeplechase meeting will be full of interest. Local stables will be represented at the meeting with Werata, Sir Moment, Vesperus and Royal Opera, while Masterton sportsmen will also be interested in the doings of Red Fuchsia, Glyn Dhu and Grand National on the (first day. Red Fuchsia has not been paid up for in the Wellington Steeplechase, but is an acceptor for the hurdles. It is reported that he is to be kept for hurdle events for the present. There is plenty of time for Red Fuchsia to make good at the big fences, as he is a comparatively young horse. Courageous has not accepted for the first day at Trentham, but both he and Shortly may compete on the second and third days. As both chestnuts are in fine form, backers will be looking for them when produced. "With, the exception of Glendowie, the Hack Steeplechase field does not appear very strong, and Sir Moment, with

the nice weight of 9.3 reads as well as anything. A win for R. Knox’s horse would be very popular.

Vesperus, 9.8, will be one of the fancied candidates for the Whyte Memorial, and he should be prominent at the finish. Paddon, Bisox, Valkon, and Singleton are a quartette likely to be very troublesome in this race.

Red Fuchsia, 11.6, is asked to concede 31b to Mister Gamp in the 1| miles Trentham Hurdles, but meets the Great Northern winner at even weights in the Winter Hurdles, of 2| miles, both being at 10.13. Red Fuchsia appears to hold more chance in the longer distance race, but the connections of Mister Gamp are confident that the Australian bred gelding will be in front.

If the fourteen acceptors start in the Trentham Hurdles on Wednesday next, it should be equal in interest to the Winter Hurdles on the following Saturday. Prince Lu, Aberfeldy, Bright Lend and Mister Gamp should ensure a merry pace all the way in this event.
