WONDERSHIPS.
FEATURES OF NEW BRITISH BATTLE CRAFT. AEROPLANE AND SUBMARINE: ATTACK MASTERED. IMPENETRABLE ARMOUR. (Received Wednesday, 7.10 p.m.) LONDON, April 10. New details of the battleships Nelson and Rodney, which have been officially communicated, show that amongst the features of these wonderships are steel decks with the heaviest horizontal protection, ever fitted to a ship, making them the first bombproof vessels afloat; secondly, the armour plating of the hull and gun turrets is of such thickness as to be impenetrable under ordinary battle conditions; and, thirdly, torpedo protection on a scale never previously attempted. The “Daily Telegraph’s” naval correspondent says that for the first time, at least, naval defence appears to have mastered attack from aeroplane and submarine.—(Australian Press Association.)
