SCHOOL PICNIC.

OUTING AT MATAHIWI. LIST OF RACE RESULTS. The annual picnic of the Matahiwi achool was held on Saturday. Owing to the unfavourable weather it was held in the school grounds. There was a large attendance of settlers and friends and an enjoyable day was (pent by all. During the afternoon the annual prizes were presented by the chairman of the school committee (Mr. A. Seott). Each child attending school received a book an? the small children a toy each. The catering arrangements were well carried out by a strong ladies’ committee. The committee wish to thank all the settlers who made donations, and also the following business firms who contributed: G. H. Perm- and Co., Levin and Co., WJ.C.A., Allan and Co., Hannah and Co., Barber Bros, and Wong Nam. A cake presented! to the school by Mrs W. H. Mason for a quessdng competition was won by Mrs 8. Holmes, who guessed the correct weight 71be. loz. Mrs Holmes kindly donated the cake to Mrs Ellison and Mr 8. Amundsen, who tied for second place with 71beDuring the afternoon the following sports programme was carried out. Mr J. Maxwell making a capable handicapper.
