WAIRARAPA CONCLUDING MATCHES. GROVES AND BLAMIRES SCORE WELL. HIGH SCHOOL PLAYER MAKES 157 NOT OUT. The concluding matches in the Wairarapa Cricket Association’s competitions were commenced on Saturday under ideal conditions. High School batted all the afternoon in their game against Old Boys, knocking up the flue total of 363 for six wickets, to which Groves contributed 157 not out, an excellent performance. At Memorial Park, United made a poorstart against Carterton, their first innings only realising 156 (including 91 not out by Blamires), while Carterton hit up 109 for the loss of four wickets. OLD BOYS v. HIGH SCHOOL. High School batted first against Old Boys on a perfect wicket. Four wickets fell fairly cheaply for 'B3 runs, then Logan joined Groves, who had been batting carefully from the beginning of the innings. These two added 134 runs and thoroughly subdued the bowling before Logan was bowled by a long hop. He played a good innings for 53. Farnsworth came next and both he and Groves trounced the tired bowling. Coombe played carefully for 19 not out. Groves batted the whole afternoon for an unbeaten 157. He was slow at first, but afterwards became more aggressive and after he had passed his century, flogged the bowling unmercifully. His score included 17 fours and 2 sixes.
