JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS.

ATTITUDE OP RANGITIKEI TEACHERS. MASTERTON RESOLUTION ENDORSED. Still another branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute—Rangitikei ; —has approved and endorsed the reso- ; lution on the subject of junior high schools recently passed and circulated by the Masterton branch. A letter re- ' ceived by Mr. G. J. Goldsman, secre- ' tary of the M&sterton branch, from Mr. 1 P. H. Hall, secretary of the Rangitikei branch, reads: “I have to acknowledge ' your letter of March 2, conveying the . resolution of your branch on the sub- 1 ject of the junior high school system. The letter was brought before our mem- ! bers at our recent annual meeting, and ; after interesting discussion I was directed to write to you stating that ; our branch is in entire agreement with i the views you have expressed. We wish : ta thank your branch for having in so clear a way stated the case against any ' undue haste on the part of the Min- : ister in continuing with an experiment that has not yet justified itself and that certainly needs careful examination. You do not state what action you wish other branches to take in the matter, but we presume that the resolution will have taken Pie form of a remit to the annual conference; and we shall no doubt in due course instruct our representatives to support it on that occasion.” ACTION BY COMMITTEES. SOUTH ISLAND PROTEST. TIMARU, March 22. The president of the South Island Federation of School Committees’ Associations (Mr. W. Gibb, of Timaru), to-day despatched the following telegram to the Canterbury and Otago Education Boards: “The South Island Federation of School Committees strongly urges your board to protest against any interference with the primary school system until the new syllabus has ben tried out. Very considerable feeling against junior high schools. Federation contends primary staff should have opportunity prove new curriculum will successfully bridge gap between old system and secondary ‘ schools.”—(P.A.)
