The Government Meteorologist (Dr J E. Kidson) reported at 4 p.m. yester-’ day: An intense anti-cyclone is een-' tred near Oamaru and extends across the Tasman Sea to Eastern Australia: south to south-east winds north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, becoming variable and later tending to norther ly, elsewhere variable with uortherlies prevailing; still a considerable swell on the East Coast south of East Cape and In Cook Strait, but decreasing and seas otherwise smooth to moderate; a few clearing showers on the East Coast but I otherwise fine, cold night temperatures,' with some inland frosts and. morning fogs; a continuance of fine weather fo»r several days is indicated.
