Shade temperature: Maxi- _ mum, 75.2: minimum, 59.4; terrestrial, 52.8; rainfall, 11 points; bright sunshine, shrs. £ The Government Meteorologist (Dr. E. Kidson) reported at 4 p.m. yesterday: A cyclone is now centred over Canterbury moving eastwards, a rather intense anti-cyclone is centred near Tasmania. Strong northerly winds on. the East Coast and elsewhere strong westerlies, at first in the North Island but backing shortly to -southerlies and reaching gale force at places. Winds becoming southerly generally over the South Island with strong to gale force. Seas rough generally in New Zealand waters. Weather squally and unsettled genera ly with further rain, heavy in ’.parts of the eastern districts, cold temperatures and improvement is probable shortly in northern and. western districts. lighting up time—s.s p.m.
