ART EXHIBITION.

The following notes ore (supplied by Mr A. E. Olemas, secretary of the Art Section of the Wairarapa. Industrial j Exhibition:— The forthcoming Art Exhibition! is being held in conjunction with the Wairarapa Industrial Exhibition, the aim and object being to raise fuWds towards the cost of a permanent Exhibition and Winter 'Show Building in Mastcrton. It is claimed that a permanent Winter Show Building would be a valuable asset to the township and

would greatly assist in fostering the town’s progress and enhance the com- . mon community good generally. It is the personal duty and pleasure of every citizen to help the cause. The Art Exhibition will be held in the Drill HalL Hall Street, from May 20 to June 1, inclusive. Exhibits will be accepted at the Drill Hall on Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. Exhibitors lending pictures are .asked to bring them as early as possible as the hanging is a task of some magnitude. Exhibitors may prefer to use their own cars, but those not wishing to -do so, will please notify the Secretary of the Art Section at Box 138 (’phone- 1188) and arrangement's will be made foi a carrier to call. Citizens who- are the fortunate possessors of art treasures are earnestly invited to co-operate.. By so doing they will not only assure financial success, but give pleasure to hundreds of fellow citizens and visitors. The appeal of art is universal. The pleasant atmosphere created by Art Exhibition of December, 1927, etill lingers. The Wairarapa is rich in art treasures. It is desired to make the coming Exhibition a real feast of elysian delight. HINTS TO EXHIBITORS It is naturally the general wish of one and all, that articles loaned for Exhibition purposes shall be returned to the rightful owner, safe and sound, and in as good condition as when received. .

Exhibitors can materially assist in the protection of their property by adopting the following suggestions: Pictures: See that picture cord is in good condition. A perished cord is a menace. Better no cord at all than one unreliable. Write full name and address in pencil or ink on the back of each picture. This will ensure return to rightful owner and avoid much confusion when dismantling. China and Antiques: Write full name anid ackirees on. slip oif paper and gum to underneath side. If sending by carrier see that •all fragile pieces are adequately protected. Furniture: Attach label, or write

full name and address in some convenient spot. Lace, Work and Linen: Attach pin-on-tag with full name and address.

Very special precautions will be taken to prevent mishap of any description. The building will be under continual police protection and supervision, and a night watchman will be on duty from dark to daylight. At no time will the building be left unattended.

Time for preparation is short. Owners of articles of interest, willing to assist, are asked to communicate with Mr A. Olemas. *
