SALE OF FRUIT.

BEQUEST FOR ADIMTLVW< FACILITIES ' DEPUTATION PLACES VIEWS BEFORE COUNCIL A deputation from the Wairarapa Small Holdings Association waited on the Masterton Borough Council last evening with reference to the establishment of an area in the borough on which local growers of fruit could market their products. It was also asked that the two hawkers’ fruit stands at the Post Office corner be reserved for the use of district fruit growers, the stands to be put ug at auction. It was also desired that two other stands, one a the Women’s Hostel, and one at Jaekson Street, be established, also for the use of district fruit growers, at a smal charge per The spokesmen were Messrs F. Norris and B. Roberts. In reply to a question, the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, stated that a local fruit vendor, who wa.s a ratepayer, had 1 bought the two Post Office stands so as to exclude other street vendors. Daniell said he did not consider the Post Office site suitable now that the Post Office would shortly be altered. In reply to Councillor H. M. On the motion of Councillor \ Fletehe, seconded by Councillor E. F. Barton.- it was decided that no fruit stands be sold at the Post Office corner. Councillor Fletcher said that that corner was a busy one. In the course of discussion councillors stated that the request of the deputation opened up a big question. Councillor H. M. Peacock moved that the requests be considered by the . Works Committee, who could confer
