'j FRENCH WAR INCIDENT. 3 BRAVE OFFICER CLEARED f A grave ir.iscitrriagc of military jurt tiee in France has been, redressed by Council of States, which has restored I to Captain Joseph. Adolphe Laurent his rank as captain and his decoration as a } Chevalier of the Region of Honour. . In 1911 the captain was so seriously ’ injured in his loft' leg and foot by a ’ fall from his hose that. he was placed in temporary retirement'‘as unfit for ’ service. When the war broke out, ’ however, he entered the anriy again J without making any mention oif his injury. He conducted himself like a hero, was several times wounded, and won the decoration of the Legion of Hon • our for his gallantry. It was remarked that Captain Laur ent limped and w’as unable to keep up with his column at ordinary marching speed. This fact was noted by his colonel. and was actually reported to his superiors as a point in his disfavour. As the result of an inquiry, in which the captain was accused of having abused the good faith of his superiors, be was placed on the retired list and shortly afterwards was expelled from j the Order of the Legion of Honour. The Council o>f State, which has fully investigated all the circumstances, has ievoked both these measures. The gal ’ant captain’s honour is restored. Ho can once more wear the decoration ho won at Verdun, and again holds hi.rank.
