HIGH COMMLSSIONER’S REPORT
The Department of Agriculture has raceived the following cablegram, dated March 16, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow. .Spot market quiet and limited business for shipment. Present spot quotations per cwt are:—Mutton: Fine, 44s 6d; fair to good, 41s to 445; dark to du.l, 38s to 395. Beef: Sweet and/or mixed, 42s 3d to 445; fair to good, 39s 6d tn 42s 6d; dark to dull, 38s to 38s 6d. Mixed: Fair to good, 39s to 425; dark to dull, 37s 6d to 38s M. Gut, etc., 36s to 38s.
Hemp: Manila market quiet and closes easier. “J” grade for April/ June shipment now quoted sellers, £37 ss. Output from January 1, to February 21, 318,000 bales against 231,000 same period last year. Stocks in Manila 214,060 against 114,000 same time last year and in Great Britain 8646 against 14,186. Sisal: Market quiet but firm. Good marks difficult to obtain at the close, sellers holding out for £4l for No. 1 and for No. 2, March/May shipment. New Zealand: Market quiet with absence cf demand but no pressure to sell. Nominal comparative values far Febmary/April and March/May shipments unchanged. Wool: Sales continue with little bet- - ter demand and slightly hardening tendency in crossbreds and halfbreds -
