MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

BY-LAW AND TRAFFIC CASES. YESTERDAY’S SITTING. At the Masterton Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Mr. J. Miller, S.M., cases involving breaches of bylaws and traffic regulations were dealt with. On a charge of driving a motor car at a speed dangerous to the public, Frederick Albert White was lined £3 and costs. James Munro Scott was fined 10s and costs for leaving his car facing in the wrong direction. For riding cycles at night without lights, lines of 10s. and costs were imposed on Burrel Salisbury, Jack Miller, Boy Blackford, Peter Hartmann, William Shipley, Alfred Ernest Franks aijd Leslie Rees, while the latter defendant was lined a further 10s. for riding his cycle without a reflector. Cycling on the footpath cost Frederick William Winter 10s and costs. Leslie Tait, L. V. Brooks and Joseph Andrews were convicted and ordered to pay a solicitor’s fee of 10s each on charges.of riding cycles on the footpath in the Masterton Public Park. James North Lawry, who was charged with driving a car without a reflector, with the rear lamp of the car not being on the right hand side, and with permitting a car to be stationary for more than 45 minutes in Queen Street, was fined 10s. and costs on each of the first two charges, while on.the latter charge he was fined £1 and costs. Fines of £1 and costs were imposed on Frank Biggs on each of two charges of leaving unlighted motor cars in the street at night, while on a charge of having a car without an assigned number, defendant was fined 10s. and costs. For failing to surrender a license when it had been cancelled by the Masterton County Council, Leonard Charles Price was fined £3 and costs. A fine of £3 and costs was the penalty imposed on Martin Joseph Smith, who was charged with, that being a carrier, he took liquor into a no-license district without an order. DEFENDED CLAIM. William Brown, for whom Mr. C. C. Marsack appeared, proceeded against Frederick Burling, who was represented by Mr. H. H. Daniell, on a claim of £3 35., alleged to be due on account of wages, being the difference between payment at Is Cd per hour and Is 9d per hour. Judgment was given for the defendant.
