CHILD ENDOWMENT.
AUSTRALIAN FEDERAL SCHEME REJECTED BY COM MISSION CANBERRA, March 15. The Federal scheme of child endowment has b'en rejected by the Royal Commission which has taken evidence in all the Stntea for many months. The majority report against the oeheme declares that the advocates of family assistance had not established that wages are insufficient, while an allowance of 10s a week for all dependent children, under fourteen years, would require an expenditure of fifty millions sterling a year. This would make the Federal income tax five and a half time#* greater thanit is at present, cauMsg disastrous reactions, e« well as removing from parents the financial responsibility for their childreni and thus weakening parental responsibility.—(Australian Press Association.)
