PHYSICAL EDUCATION.

AN INSTRUCTOR AVAILABLE Y.M.C.A PROPOSAL In reporting progress to the committee appointed, last year to’ pursue the project of securing the services of pin expert physical educationists, Mr A„ E. Bate stated that nine applications had been .received for the position. Of these, however, only One applicant seemed to have the qualifications deHired, and further inquiries concerning him had confirmed the committee's judgment, as to his suitability. The applicant in question has had considerable experience and c’aims to be able to give instruction in gymnastics of all kinds, club swinging, boxing, wrest]y, swimmings and life saving, and physical culture generally. The main problem before the committee at present is to find the finance necessary to try out the scheme. It was decided to write to ihe Secondary Education Board and to the boards of governors controlling the various private schools and similar institutions, to ascertain whether they would be prepared to make use of such an instructor and if so to what extent they would be able to contribute towards his salary. It Will depend in a large measure on the reception the scheme receives from these various organisations whether it can be proceeded with or not. The committee considers that- tho opportunity is a splendid one and should not be missed. Anyone interested in the scheme having any suggestion to offei is asked to get into touch with the secretary; of th? local Y.M.C.A.
