“UNCLE TOM’S CABIN” Harry Pollard, who directed the £400,000 Universal productoin of “Uncle Tom’s Cabni,” which will open at the Cosy Theatre next Tuesday playel 1 heroic of Uncle Tom himself more than thirteen years ago. At that time he had just become acquainted with the motion picture industry, and little did he dream that he would in the years to come, direct one of the most tremendous of screen epics. A cast comprised of stars was selected to play the characters made familiar to everyone by. the immortal Harriet Beecher Stowe novel from which the picture was adapted. Five thousand people in all took part in the making of the film. The supporting cast is reported to be_unusually good. Stanley Taylor appears as the room-mate, of Rogers. Hugh Trevor Hayden Stevenson Andy Devine, Robert* Seiter and Earl McCarthy are in the cast, plus a bevy of Hollywood’s sna-ppiest beauties. OPERA HOUSE The destroying of a street carnival by fire, furnishes a big thrill in “The Sawdust Paradise,” Esther Ralston’s latest starring picture. As a dyed-in-the-wool ballyhoo girl, with ci cheap travelling street carnival, Miss Ralston plays a part that ranges between the light and broad comedy which has featured her previous starring roles, and real drama. The serious moments of “The Sawdust Paradise” which is a miniature epic of its sort, bring forth vividly Miss Ralston'.s strength as a dramatic actress. It is reported that the blonde star is to do more of the ikam work in the future. Supporting Miss Ralston are Hobart Bosworth and Reed Howes. There is also l am excellent supporting programme.
