COUNTY AFFAIRS.
MEETING OF MAURICEVILLE COUNCIL METALLING OF MT. BRUCE ROAD The monthly meeting of the Mauriceville County Council was hold on Saturday, the chairman, CouncPor 11. Judd presiding over a full attendance of members. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £6'23 2s 7d, current account. Accounts totalling £422 14s 5d were passed, for payment. On the motion of Councillor Seymour seconded by Councillor Bennett, it was decided that the council carry out the metalling of the. Mount Bruce Road as the construction work was completed by the Main Highways Board.
The question of metalling portion of Wangaehu Hoad was considered, and certain figures were suggested for submission to the ratepayers concerned for a special loan. The matter was left in the hands of the chairman to communicate with the settlers thereon.
It was decided that tho plans ani specifications of the new Ma-ngamahoc Bridge be submitted to the Public Works Department for approval.
On the motion of Councillor Bennett it was decided that the council express its appreciation of the action of the chairman in interviewing t-h-e'chair-man' of the Main Highways Board in regard to obtaining further highway ■mileage in the county. The Minister of Public, Works wrote stating that in response to the representations made by the council that the level crossing two miles south of Kopuaranga Station was dangerous he would be pleased to look carefully into the position with a view to seeing whether anything could be done to effect an improvement.
In regard to variation of grants for Main Highway No. 87, Dryers-’ Rock Road, a letter was received from the District Engineer. A letter was received from tho convener of a conference with a view to forming a county clerks’ association. The matter was left to tho clerk to ixki such course in the matter as he thought desirable.
