REDUCTION OF SALARIES THROUGHOUT SERVICE. VICTORY OF COMMONBENBE OVER EXTREMISM. (Received This Day, 1.2 a.m.) LONDON, August 13. From to-day, the wages and salaries throughout the British railways will be reduced by 2| per cent. The last conference, endorsing the provisional agreement, was held yesterday, the Railway Clerks’ Association overwhelmingly approving the settlement. Mr. J. H. Thomas described the unanimous support of the reduction by all unions as a victory of commonsense over extremism.— (Australian Press Association.—United Service.)
