The athletic contest between the Empire and the United States at Stamford Bridge attracted the second biggest crowd ever seen at an athletic meeting in England. The attendance was officially estimated at forty-one thousand. Competitors, who paraded before the crowd, the Americans leading, received an ovation. The weather was ideal. The Americans caused one of the biggest surprises in winning the hurdles event, which was a chapter of accidents from the British point of view. The result of the contest was a victory for the Americans. Following are the results of the various events:— Three Miles Team Race.— British Empire, 17 points, 1; United States, 20 points, 2. Time, 14min 37 2-ssee. Steeplechase Relay.—Empire 1. Timo 7min 52sec. Won by six yards. Mile Medley Relay.—British Empire 3min 40 3-ssee. Won by fifteen yards. Four Hundred' Yards "Relay.— United States defeated the British Empire, in 37 4-ssec, by inches. Long Jump.—United States, 74ft 3in. (Ham 25ft lin., Dates, 24ft Bin., Hubbard 24ft Gin); British Empire (Atkinson 23ft 10|in., Harrison, Australia, 22ft lOiin, Filjoen 21ft 4Jin).
