EKETAHUNA SALE The Wairarapa Farmers’ Cooperative Association Ltd report: We offered a good yarding of about 1350 sheep and also a fair number of cattle to a large attendance of buyers. The demand for sheep was keen throughout, prices being quite equal to those ruling at larger centres. Bost breeding ewes to Southdown rams made 37s 4d and fat and forward b.f. lambs, 27s 6d. The bulk of our cattle offering comprised dairy heifers due August and September, sold on account, of Mr. F. H. Richards, a number of which was secured by a buyer from Foxton. These were all of exceptional quality: We report: Sheep: 62 4-year ewes r.w. S.D. ram, 37s 4d; 30 5-year do, 355; 22 do, 275; 78 do, 31s 6d; 20 cull do, 10s; 15 2-th ewes r.w. Rom. ranis, 36s 6d; 67 b.f. fat and forward lambs, 27s 6d; 14 store do, 25s sd; 30 do, 20s 6d; 85 do, 20s; 20do, 20s 8d; other small lots, 20s; 31 ewe lambs 265; 22 do, 24s 6d; 20 do, 22s 9d; best white-faced wether lambs (small lots), 22s 6d to 22s 7d; 133 medium w.f. lambs, 19s 7d; 161 do, 18s ■ lOd; 35 do, 20s 4d; 25 do, 17s 9d; 114 do, 14s 6d; small lambs 10s, Ils 6d to 13s Id; good wethers (small lots), 28s, 295, 29s 3d, 33s to 33s 6d. Cattle: 19 rising 2 and 3-year Jersey heifers, due August and September, £8 ss, £9 2s 6d to £lO 2s 6d; crossbred do,£s 10s, £6 to £8; other lines made full rates. JOHNSONVILLE SALE Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd., report as follow on the Johnsonville sale: An average yarding of sheep and cattle came forward. Sheep and lambs sold freely at prices showing an advance on last week’s rates. Values, however, were well within those ruling in the country. The bullocks made a dragging sale, but cows sold freely. Quotations: Bullocks, £l3 10s to £l4 ss; cows, £9, to £lO 15s; lambs, 28s 6d to 32s 6d; wethers, 37s to 445; ewes, 26s 6d to 365.
