THE RACING WORLD.

! NEWS, NOTES AND COMMENTS. A Mastertn bred gelding in Willow King .(Grey Spear —Lochiela) bred by the late Mr. C. Wagland, and now racing in Brisbane, is highly spoken of by a Queensland sporting journal. He competed in a two-year-old race a week or two ago and the public made him a hot. favourite, but he finished outside a place. The report goes ou to state that Willow King will be "doing things’’ very soon. This horse was purchased last winter and taken to Brisbane by an Australian visitor. Vesperus is an acceptor for the chief event at Otaki on Saturday and must be given a chance at the weight. Mr. W. R. Kemball has sold Hymestra to Mr. J. M. Cameron, of Hastings. Hymestra was one of our best sprinters, and his best advertisement as a sire is Hynanna. There will be racing at Ellerslie, Otaki and Dunedin on Saturday. Chief interest will be taken in the Great Northern Hurdles, to be run on Saturday afternoon. Aberfeldy went out of favour owing to one or two medium exhibitions in schooling work, but latest reports credit the Christchurch representative with good displays. At the weight* Aberfeldy should be handy at the finish. Mister Gamp is pleasing the track watchers at Aackland, and he may go out favourite for the Northern Hurdles. He is not a big horse and the stiff hurdles might be a steadier for him. Corinax and High Pitch will most likely be the public choice for the chief fiat event at Auckland. Corinax has been doing great work and should be hard to beat. Yoma will be Taranaki supporters’ hope in this event. Beau Cavalier, with all his weight, will give the opposition something to do to keep with him in the Steeplechase. Brigadier Bill, Maunga and Wiltshire may be his strongest opponents. AUCKLAND SCRATCHINGS. AUCKLAND, May 31. Scratchings for the Great Northern Hurdles are:—Red Comet (at noon), Kawa( at 2.20 p.m.). For all engagements: Euchre (at 3.45 p.m.).—(P.A.)
