Mr. M. A, Pike, of Nelson, has been appointed Telegraph Engineer at Masterton. Mrs Myer Caselberg, of Auckland, and formerly of Masterton, has r.JTurned from a visit to Jerusalem. Miss Riach and Mr. Conly, recently appointed to the teaching staff of the Wairarapa High School, took up their duties yesterday. . Mr. J. A. .Smith, of the local staff of the Bank of New South Wales, leave® to-day on a mouth’s relieving duty at Westport. He is accompanied by Mrs. Smith.
Mr W. Hickson, late headmaster of the Martinborough District High Sehool and now in charge of tho Masterton West School was farewelled by his pupils at Martinborough last week. The head prefect, Jean Cochrane, on behalf of the scholars, asked Mr Hickson to accept, as a mark of their esteem, a seagrass chair. The school wished him every success in Masterton West, and hoped that both he and Hrs Hickson would enjoy many years of health and happiness. In reply, Mr. Hickson thanked the children for their handsome gift and remarked that he would always have pleasant memories of his time in Martinborough. The singing of “For He’s a. Jolly Good Fellow” and prolonged applause eonc’uded tho gathering.
