ATHENIC SOLD.
WELL-KNOWN NEW ZEALAND TRADER NEW CAREER AS A WHALER (Received Tuesday, 8 p.m.). LONDON, May 22. The “Daily Telegraph” is informed that the Athenic has been purchased by Mr. A. Jahre, chairman of a whaling company in Norway and* will be converted into a whaler for use in south polar seas. Her transformation will occupy three months, at a cost of £lOO,OOO. She will start her new career at the earliest, with a crew of two hundred.—(Australian Press Association) . (The Athenic, a vessel of 12,234 gross tonnage, of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co., is a particularly wellknown ship in New Zealand waters, having been- engaged in the Home trade for very many years.)
