BIG EXHIBITION OPENED IN AUCKLAND ” SIGNS OF RETURNING PROSPERITY” AUCKLAND, May 22. An advertising exhibition, organised by the Auckland Advertising Club, was lopened by the Minister of Health (the Hon. J. A. Young) this aftcrndon. .The display is the largest demonstration of modern advertising methods held in the Dominion. New Zealand manufactures form an important feature, while there is an exhibit showing the world-wide activities of the Government Publicity Department. Mr. Young emphasised that one of the leading advertising mediums was the daily newspaper, which rendered great service to the community. Mr. Young said in recent years the Government, recognising the value of publicity, had made displays at exhibitions in the United Kingdom and Canada, ©ver £200,000 having been spent in this direction in the past five years. iWith a view to attracting tourists from Australia an intentive publicity camc paign was now being conducted at the tost of £5OOO, while in addition to publicity in Britain more was being done to advertise the attractions of the Dominion in Canada, India and South Africa. The Minister referred to signs of Returning prosperity in the Dominion and emphasised that the unfavourable trade balance of £3,000,000 in 1927 had been changed Io a favourable balance of £10,000,000 this year and this and •the condition of the finance market justified a reduction in bank rates, which the Minister urged was necessary for the farmer and the Business man. The Minister also appealed for preference to Britain in buying, pointing out the mutual benefits of trading within the Empire.—(P.A.).
