MASTERTON BAND.

PAST YEAR’S WORK REVIEWED. ANNUAL MEETING. “The band has experienced a difficult year, and at times it app'eared impossible to carry on," stated Mr. B. Rickard, secretary of the Masterton Municipal Band, in his report for the twelve months ending on March 31 last, presented at the annual meeting of the band last night. “Through lack of employment many members have had to leave Masterton and it is only the tenacity of a few members that has kept the band going. Unfortunately, too, Mr. J. Noble, the conductor, decided he could not continue, and his resignation dates as from March 31 of this year. The band made twenty-nine ■Public appearances, of which fifteen were free concerts, at which no collections or charges were made. During y ™ seventy-five practices were held. The average attendance at all parades was seventeen. The committee met ten times during the year, the average a JW ndanc e of committeemen being “\i. were thirt y-eight members on the roll at the end of 1926. Of these twenty-nine resigned and seventeen of them left Masterton (seven to Wellington, two to Petone, two to Carterton, and one each to Greytown, Napier, Hastings, Nelson, Featherston and Eketahuna). ( FUTURE PROSPECTS. .. e am glad to that prospects for Uie future point to better things. Mr. B. J. xoung consented to take over the conductorship and already his work is bearing fruit. The current roll shows twenty-six members. His experience in matters musical and organising ability, will, we think, assist to place the band on a much better footing. Greater interest is being taken both by the bandsmen and the public in the band generally and many old and staunch members have again joined up. This together with a strong team of lads receiving tuition must eventually make for improvement. In conclusion we tender our sincere thanks to the public for support and to old bandsmen who ? re ™ lway3 w ‘llings to assist the band to fiH its engagements. We specially ‘ •v>sh to thank the Masterton Borough / Or contil >ned support, and "“’‘ that we can show to this body confidence is not misplaced.” The balance sheet showed a credit at «set a ° f £Bl M-’ a “ d a bala "" 8S 9J " ablllti,> ' amoDn ‘i”g to elected" 8 . t 0T f cn9 “ in S - vcar were ected as follow:—Bandmaster, held over; sergeant, Mr. L.
