TO-DAY’S RACES.

WAIRARAPA EASTER MEETING. THE FIELDS REVIEWED. The Wairarapa Racing Club’s autumn meeting, which ■will commence on the Tauherenikau Racecourse to-day, is always a popular Easter attraction, and no doubt this year’s gathering will be no exception! The first_race is timed to commence at 11.30. Convenient transport arrangements have been made to suit patrons. As Joy Bird will be’ racing at Feilding the Easter Handicap will be left with only four horses, two of these being from one stable. This is a somewhat disappointing field for a £5OO stake. Ring Boy and David Garrick may be the most prominent. The Maiden Hack Race has a fair field. Despot has shown fair form lately and Callanmore may also run prominently. Nine horses have accepted in the Mokai Hack, but Imitation may be reserved for the last race. Panther, Amorist and Kindle look the most likely contestants. The Railway Handicap, the open sprint, should be a good race. Royal Ceres, Miss Pat and Sarchee will no doubt bo the public fancies. The Nursery will probably be the best race of the day and quite half a dozen have a good chance to win honours. Itidgemount, if in form, should do well and will, no doubt, be favourite. Spearmiss and Court Jester look like having the finish of the Tuhitarata Hack to themselves. The Martinborough Welter has a nice field. Beaumont (top weight) is a useful sort and can carry weight well. Cerf and King Midas should keep him busy, however. Imitation, Reckless and Rameses look the pick of those engaged in the last race.

JOTTINGS. Local racing enthusiasts are expecting Hynanna to give a good account of himself in the Great Autumn Handicap next week. Mr. Kemball’s champion is reported to be in good form. Miss Ransom is another from this stable who should do well in two-year-old events at Riecarton. Bright Glow may start favourite for the Auckland Easter Handicap, but Joy King, who beat her at Wellington, will have to be reckoned with. Flying Juliet is a light weight that might bo troublesome .to both. , Staghunter will need to improve on his Masterton running to have a chance against Prince Humphrey, Raasay and Episode in the Great Northern Champagne Stakes. Satrap, in the President’s Handicap at Auckland to-day, has a fair weight for a three-year-old, and Corinax and Princess Ronnie and Valkon will probably make him do his best. Although Shirley’s form has been very moderate lately, there are several sportsmen expecting her to run well in the Great Easter on Monday. She won this race very easily last year, carrying tho same weight as she has this year. Reremoana will most likely bo favourite for tho Great Easter, but 9.9 is a big. lead to carry in a handicap, and Eulalie, Booster and Shirley should make him carry it all the way. The Great Autumn will be run on Tuesday. Rapier, Hynanna and Lady Desmond are the most fancied. Rapier and Lady Desmond will have a chance of a try-out in the Sockburn Handicap on Monday, but Hynanna is not engaged in that event.
