Mr D. Douglas has been appointed to the Solway College Board of Governors. A New York cablegram announces that Coles Phillips, the prominent artist, is dead. Mr F. Exell, road overseer to the Masterton County Council for the past sixteen years, has retired on superannuation. His resignation was received by the council with regret. Messrs H. J. Nitz, C. Grey and D. McLachlan Ifave for Napier .to-day to compete in the New Zealand Sparrow Shooting Championship and the North Island Clay Bird Championship. Mr J. Hepburn, an elderly patient in the Masterton Hospital, died in the institution yesterday afternoon. He had been an inmate for several months. It is understood that the late Mr Hepburn had no relations in the Dominion. The death took place in Wellington on Monday, of Mrs Beatrice Hooper, wife of Mr J. W. Hooper, of Matarawa. The interment will take place this afternoon, leaving the residence of Mrs W. Hooper, South Carterton, at I. o’clock, for the Clareville Cemetery. The death occurred at Carterton yesterday afternoon of Mr Andrew C. Wilde, who had been a resident of the district for many years. The deceased, who was 79 years of age, leaves a widow and a family of four sons and four daughters. The interment will take place to-morrow afternoon, leaving his late residence, High Street, Carterton, at 1.30 p.m. for the Clareville Cemetery. The death is reported in Wellington of Mr John Mortimer Davie, a former well-known and highly esteemed resident of the Forty Mile Bush district of the past. Mr Davie, who was 68 years of age, had been living in retirement in Wellington for some years past. He ia survived by a widow, two sons, Messrs C. and J. F. Davie, and two daughters, Miss Davie and Mrs A. J. Perry; all of whom are resident in the Eketahuna district.
