THE TEST CAPTAIN.
A STATEMENT BY HOBBS. LONDON, August 10. -J. B. Hobbs, the* Surrey batsman, in a stateuwnt says that A. W. Carr, the ex-captain of England, was present throughout the discussions and also when the selectors worded the official statement saying that the resignation was due to illhealth. Hobbs emphatically denies that he said anything about Carr’s resignation, beyond declining to express his owp personal view upon a matter which ik of public importance. “My opinion is that Carr’s resignation is far too delicate a matter for me to talk about.” — (A. and N.Z.).
