MURDER CHARGE.

OUTCOME OF WAIMATE TRAGEDY TIMARU, August 11.—As a sequel to the inquest held at Waimate yesterday regarding the death of Duval Earle England, which- resulted from a gunshot wound, Owen Joseph Francis McKee has been arrested on a charge? of murder and lodged in the Timaru lockup.—(P.A.). (At the adjourned inquest on the death of D. E. England, who received a charge of buckshot in the abdomen from a gun which was being unloaded by Owen McKee, the latter claimed the privilege of withholding certain details of the evidence on the ground of the possibility of incriminating himself of manslaughter. One witness stated that he had quarrelled with McKee, giving the latter a black eye. This statement had been made the night before the tragedy. A nurse at the hospital, however, stated that England had told her that his mate had intended shooting a hawk, but the breach of the gun jammed and he got the full charge of shot. The Coroner, Mr E. D. Mosley, S. M., said that the enquiry had been rendered difficult by the most important witness declining to carry the evidence to the fullest possible point, and commented on the doubtful wisdom of this course. Had McKee carried the evidence through he would have been justified in'coming to a certain conclusion, but could only find that Duval Earle England died from shock and haemorrhage due to a gunshot wound caused by the discharge of a gun in the hands of Owen Joseph Francis McKee).
