FRANCE SUSPECTS PLOT. FOUR HUNGARIANS ARRESTED. (Press Association —Copyright.) Wednesday 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 5. —The “Times” Paris correspondent says France is closely following the investigation now being made in Bucharest to discover the source of the forged French bank notes. It is asserted that the object of the forger’s was to provide a fund for a plot intended to place the Archduke Albrecht on the Hungarian throne and a number of most highly-placed persons are allegedly implicated. The French Minister at Budapest has gone to Paris to report to the Government which throughout has suspected the affair had a political background. Three prominent Hungarians have been arrested at Hague and Amsterdam, while a fourth Hungarian, also of a good family, was arrested at Hamburg on arrival from Norway with the aUeged false French bank notes. —(A. and N.Z.) ANOTHER ARREST. FLYING OFFICER DETAINED. (Received Wednesday, 7.50 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 5. —Arrests continue in connection with the great Hungarian forgeries plot. The latest include that of Ednundolehvary, claiming' to be a Serbian merchant, but who really is a flying officer. He was, arrested at Hamburg on the steamship Leo. It is alleged that there were ICO forged thousand franc notes in his possession. Over 50 People Implicated. BUDAPEST, Jan. 6.—lt is believed that over 50 persons are implicated, including many highly placed State officials. Police Chief Nadossy has been dismissed. It is alleged that he put the investigators on the wrong track and arranged for the Foreign Office to place the diplomatic seals on a box containing 10,000 forged thousand franc notes, with which Colonel Jankovieh went to Holland. Three thousand more notes have been seized at the Cartographical Institute here. Plot Against France. The French Minister declares that France regards the plot as an attack against her financial credit. The “Djply Chronicle” special correspondent declares that the plot was first disclosed to the Paris police by accomplices. .Detectives went to Budapest and insisted on an investigation. They got on the track of Jankovich, who, with two others, was arrested in Holland. ’ During the Dutch investigations, a telegram from Budapest camo into the possession of the police, stating “Business bad, return immediately.” This was traced to a man who, for ten years, had been Windischgraetz’s valet. The arrest of the valet and the Prince’s secretary followed. The French detectives became convinced that these were only middlemen and eventually demanded tho arrest of Windisehgraetz. Revolutionary Plot Alleged. LONDON, Jan. s.—The “Daily Express” says France is demanding £8,000,000 from Hungary as damages for the forgeries. It is also stated that Czecho-Slo-vakia is planning diplomatic aetjon through the League of Nations. The Socialist paper “Arbeiter Zeitung” affirms that the discovery of the forgeries prevented an outbreak by 4 the awakening Magyars, who aimed at -a. dictatorship under Archduke Albrecht. The reason of the forgeries was that the financing of the awakening Magyars had become difficult, owing to the League’s control of Hungarian finances. The paper declares that Horthy, the army and the civil service had been won over. Horthy was promised a dukedom and a large estate. Windischgraetz is reported to have deserted Prince Otto’s followers and to have joined tho awakening Magyars.
